In its 30 year history, McQueens Flowers has been entrusted to create dynamic floral displays for some of London’s most iconic and discerning 5* star hotels, including Mayfair’s timeless Claridge's. Our dedicated design team relishes in dreaming up bigger and more awe-inspiring installations each season. There have been so many special moments, it’s tricky to pinpoint a favourite - until October 2019, that is when Creative Lead Sophie Baptiste (a floral visionary) proposed the autumnal installation whose beauty is matched by its message...
The desire: to bring the outdoors- in, and in turn, delighting guests with a slice of the country’s glorious autumnal transformation. The entire installation would be made up of foliage - with very few flowers (a first for the hotel) and what’s more, British foliage from our special friends at Tregothnan who we were thrilled to introduce as a supplier back in the warmer days of August. Another English institution, Cornwall-based Tregothnan is a multi-faceted estate who once upon a time, along with other growers of Cornwall supplied the country with almost 90% of its botanicals! Today the gardens are not only a prolific supplier of exquisite foliage but features the only British-based tea plantation.
Taking centre stage in the dining room, the dream came to fruition in the form of a show-stopping autumnal tree - showing off Tregothnan’s bountiful harvest. The cocophany of foliage includes Burgundy Maple, Rubus, Contoneaster and Cornus to name just a few. A proud moment for both Claridges and McQueens - not least because we recently announced our news of receiving a Positive Luxury Butterfly Award, an accolade for our commitment to improving sustainable practice.
