Job Title: Senior Florist

Department: Events

Reports to: Head of Events

Location: Bethnal Green, London 

The job-holder will be a valued member of the McQueens Flowers talent team, with responsibility for helping to produce exceptional event floral designs and installations for our customers. Generally leading a team of Florists and Assistant Florists, Senior Florists need to demonstrate a high level of creativity and technical competence as well as well-developed communication, teamwork and organisational skills.

 Our customers include some of the world’s most luxurious and demanding hotels, restaurants and event venues and organisers – all of whom expect a flawless execution of the services we have committed to provide to them. Senior Florists play a vital role in making this happen, and need to be committed to going the extra mile when necessary – settling for nothing less than perfection and quality.

The role calls for a combination of passion, creativity, flexibility, team-working, interpersonal skills, organisation and planning, attention to detail, and staying calm under pressure. Most of the work we do is carried out before and after an event, so you’ll need to be prepared to work some weekends and unsocial hours.

Duties:

  •  Leading a team of florists
  • Planning designs and installations
  • Ordering of flowers and other items within budget for each order
  • Preparation of vases, materials and equipment in the workroom
  • Hiring of props
  • Conditioning and preparation of flowers in the workroom
  • Loading and unloading of vans
  • Driving to and from event venues

Generally working as part of a team led by a Lead Creative, Florists need to demonstrate creativity and technical competence as well as well-developed communication, teamwork and organisational skills.

Our customers include some of the world’s most luxurious and demanding hotels, restaurants and event venues and organisers – all of whom expect a flawless execution of the services we have committed to provide to them. Florists play an important role in making this happen, and need to be committed to going the extra mile when necessary – settling for nothing less than perfection and quality.

The role calls for a combination of passion, creativity, flexibility, team-working, interpersonal skills, organisation and planning, attention to detail, and staying calm under pressure. Most of the work we do is carried out when guests are asleep or venues are closed, so early morning starts are common and night shifts sometimes necessary.

Role:

The job-holder will be a valued and talented member of the McQueens Flower School team, with responsibility for leading the delivery of a variety of floristry courses and experiences – requiring you to not only demonstrate a high level of creativity and technical competence but also excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills. Above all else, you’ll be outstandingly talented and demonstrate a natural skill for sharing your passion and technical expertise in an engaging manner.

You’ll be responsible for the academic and pastoral achievements of your students – supporting, monitoring and guiding them at every step to achieve the highest level of academic success and emotional fulfilment.

The role calls for a combination of passion, creativity, flexibility, team-working, interpersonal skills, organisation and planning, attention to detail, and staying calm under pressure. You’ll have a flexible approach to the hours and days you work in order to meet the needs of our students and maximise the commercial opportunity.

You’ll be required to contribute heavily to the refinement and enrichment of existing courses as well as the development of new courses – playing a full part in helping the Flower School to retain and enhance its reputation nationally and internationally.

You’ll be required to support the Flower School’s teaching programme around the world, either mandatorily as a visiting tutor for short periods or for extended periods of time by agreement.

Duties:

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the agreed and approved curriculum for each course, workshop, masterclass or experience
  • Responsibility for conceiving and realising original and creative floral designs at any scale that deliver all of the required learning outcomes and are also as stimulating, memorable, photogenic and innovative as possible
  • Responsibility for the preparation of teaching materials, notes and lesson plans as required to deliver the curriculum at each class
  • Responsibility for ensuring that all materials, equipment and so on are set up in good time before each lesson
  • Be aware of national and international trends in teaching methodologies and approaches – including those of our competitors – and respond to them accordingly
  • Responsibility for using adaptive teaching techniques appropriate to each group of learners
  • Responsibility for ensuring that every student achieves their full potential – monitoring, coaching, intervening and adjusting teaching methodology as required
  • Identification and response to students’ needs and welfare with counselling, guidance, supporting to your own competence and, where necessary, seeking guidance from the School Principal
